"Natural Edge Scoop" - Amboyna Burl - 10" long x 3" wide x 2 1/4" deep - 1994 - Private Collection - Amboyna Burl comes from Indonesia and Southeast Asia, and is among the most beautiful and rare woods available to woodworkers.  I enjoy working with Amboyna because it lends itself to creating pieces using the rich, red-orange heartwood, and the contrasting, cream-colored sapwood.  Leaving the wood's jagged/free edge on this spoon is an interesting contradiction with most peoples' expectation that a utensil be gentle on the mouth.  Photography by Jim Osborn.
